Fluorine‐Stabilized Defective Black Phosphorene as a Lithium‐Like Catalyst for Boosting Nitrogen Electroreduction to Ammonia

Electrocatalytic N2 reduction reaction (NRR) is recognized as a zero-carbon emission method for NH3 synthesis. However, to date, this technology still suffers from low yield and selectivity associated with the catalyst. Herein, inspired by activation of lithium metal, highly reactive defective black phosphorene (D−BPene) proposed lithium-like catalyst boosting electrochemical activation. Correspondingly, we also report strategy producing environmentally stable D−BPene simultaneously constructing defects fluorination protection based on topochemical reactions. Reliable performance evaluations show that fluorine-stabilized can induce high rate ≈70 μg h−1 mgcat.−1 Faradaic efficiency ≈26 % at −0.5 V vs. RHE in an aqueous electrolyte. This work not only exemplifies first preparation practical application D−BPene, but brings new design idea NRR catalysts.
